Abruzzo

The Abruzzo region of Italy is known as the "untouched gem of Italy". It is a lesser-known and "undiscovered" area unlike the heavily traveled more touristy areas of Italy such as Tuscany and Rome. It's touted as Italy's "green region" (national parks and nature reserves cover much of it). But Abruzzo is so much more than that. It contains lakes, the Adriatic coastline, national parks, imposing mountain ranges, UNESCO heritage sites, some of the most beautiful medieval towns in the country, and an eclectic and diverse cuisine that changes from the beach to the mountains.

Abruzzo is filled with many diverse, exciting, and beautiful opportunities for once-in-a-lifetime experiences. There are almost too many to share, but we'll try! :)

Here is a beginner's list of our favorite things to do in the area.
We have vetted the best locations for each of these activities and hope they will help you fall in love with the area!

Get Outdoors

There are three national parks in Abruzzo, covering over half of the entire region and making it one of the greenest areas in Europe. Three notable parks are the Parco Nazionale d'Abruzzo, Gran Sasso National Park , and Majella National Park .

It would be a shame to come to the region and not get out into the great outdoors, so we have compiled a list of some amazing hikes that you can enjoy in the area.

Our recommended hikes from alltrails.com are all in the Chieti province, easy-to -moderate and family-friendly so that everyone can enjoy.
