Colledimezzo is a 12th century medieval town and commune in the province of Chieti. It sits on a rocky outcrop overlooking Val di Sangro. Colledimezzo literally means ‘Hill in between’, in fact the village is located on a hilltop between two higher mounts. The landscape of the village is striking, with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains, Il Val di Sangro, and Lake Bomba from every window.
The houses in the village are connected by a network of ancient streets, some not accessible by car. Winding passages, ancient stairs, rustic facades...
Its the picture of medieval charm.
The center of town is the piazza, which houses a bank, church, and the most visited building in Colledimezzo: The Bar. If you sit in the piazza for any amount of time, you'll be welcomed by a number of friendly villagers. The town is small, but it makes up for it's size with a tremendous amount of kindness, hospitality and Italian camaraderie.
The Town
Colledimezzo is a small medieval village, and thats what makes it such a perfect place to escape to. That doesnt mean, however, that it isnt full of life. The locals are out and about everyday enjoying the Bar, the grocery store, the pharmacy, the hardware store, and the piazza. The churches of the town are beautiful and worth a visit, and their bells will bring beautiful reminders of the hour with their chiming. Il Belvedere (at the top of town) offers the most stunning views of the town, and its just a short drive or a lovely hike uphill

Colledimezzo is an ancient medieval village nestled on a mountain overlooking a valley with beautiful Lake Bomba at it's base and The majestic Majella Mountains all around. As you can imagine, getting to the top of this charming town is SURE to bring views to die for!
You can witness these incredible vistas for yourself when you make the hike up to Il Belvedere, the lookout point at the tippity top of the village.
The hike takes about 30 mins through the center of the ancient village, up winding paths and interesting stairways. The walk itself is pretty exciting, but the view is what takes your breath away.
